Dear Diary is an allegorical short story I wrote after something that happened at my daughter’s school. One afternoon, during lunch, one of her friends received a text from his girlfriend saying that she was about to take her own life. Understandably, he panicked and started calling her and everyone he could think of to get help for her. Thanks to God’s intervention, this girl is still with us.
That night, haunted by images of this girl feeling she had no way out of her pain, I came up with the storyline for Dear Diary (My Date with Emptiness). Written as an entry penned in a diary, it follows the story of a young woman who unknowingly invites a spiritual being named “Emptiness” into her life. He begins to control her life, and out of desperation, she is driven to behaviors she would normally never consider. Feeling helpless and hopeless, she takes pen in hand to make her final entry.
But there is ALWAYS hope. And the light of hope shines bright- even in the darkest moments.
